Current industry news & commentary as well as a comprehensive comparison of the past week's prices from around the country in comparison to the previous week, month, & 1 year ago along with 5 year averages. The data is compiled from a variety of sources and is organized to provide insight in determining market movement and trends.
For the week ending December 7th:
Slaughter cattle were steady in light trade with a firm undertone and boxed beef cutouts closed the week about $1 higher. Live cattle futures gained about $1 and feeder cattle futures lost $1. The big losers were feeder cattle and stocker calves, losing $3 and $4 respectively while grain posted gains again this week.
Of concern is that October data for U.S. beef exports show a slowdown compared to mid-summer and the possibility of lower exports in the 1st quarter of 2019.
